Athan Lindsay

Athan brings a seasoned philanthropic professional to the JD Financial Group team to help our clients create and implement their philanthropic legacies. He adds a unique dimension to our teams capacity to expose, educate and engage, with our clients to integrate charitable giving as part of their financial goals.

Athan is a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® or CAP, a national accreditation from the American College of Financial Services that equips financial professionals to assist their clients and donors by using financial strategies, estate planning strategies, and gift planning to advance their personal financial goals for self and family, while also having a positive impact on their community.

Athan has worked locally, regionally, and nationally with family foundations, community foundations, and health legacy foundations. He has also played a key leadership role in a national rural funders collaborative composed of national and regional grantmakers to leverage $100 million to support rural communities and families. He is the Architect and Visionary behind the BIG Equity Fund and helped to create and organize the Community Investment Network. Both initiatives engage donors of color as philanthropists to use collective philanthropy to fund the impact they want to see in their communities.

In the field of philanthropy, Athan was recognized with the 2006 Emerging Leader Award by the Association of Black Foundation Executives and was chosen to be part of the 2023 Council on Foundation's Career Pathways Cohort.

Athan currently resides in Elon, North Carolina with his wife, Cori. They are the proud parents to their son, Langston Joseph George Lindsay, (b.12/12/12). Athan is a native of Winston-Salem, NC. Athan graduated from Davidson College in 1993 with a B.A. in History. Athan’s work experience has included service with the Rural Advancement Foundation International (RAFI), Cameron Foundation, National Rural Funders Collaborative, Warner Foundation, and Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation. Mr. Lindsay is a 2000 Fellow of the Southeastern Council of Foundations Hull Leadership; the recipient of the Association of Black Foundation Executive’s (ABFE) 2006 Emerging Leader in Philanthropy Award; awarded Triad Business Journal’s 2022 Leader in Diversity; and named as a Top Influencer for Triad (NC) region by Triad Business Journal. He has been featured in and written articles for various national publications and has also made many presentations at conferences across the nation.

Athan is insurance licensed in North Carolina.
